Simple Steps You Can Take at Home

While you wait to see us, there are a few simple things you can do to protect your tooth and manage your comfort:

  • My Tooth is Knocked Out: Handle the tooth only by the crown (the top part), never the root. If possible, place it in a small container of milk or your own saliva to keep it moist, fully submerged, and bring it with you
  • I Have Swelling & Pain: Hold a cold compress or an ice pack wrapped in a cloth against the outside of your cheek near the affected area. This helps numb the pain and reduce inflammation.
  • My Gum is Bleeding: If there is bleeding, bite down gently on a piece of clean gauze or a moist tea bag to apply pressure to the area.
  • I Chipped My Tooth: If possible, bring the broken part of your tooth with you in a clean container.

Comfortable Care, No Matter the Situation

Anxiety often comes hand-in-hand with an emergency. You might be worried about the pain of the procedure or even feel embarrassed if it’s been a while since your last visit. Please know that Desoto Family Dentistry is a judgment-free zone, and we’re to stop the pain, not cause it.

  • We Listen First: We’ll never rush you. We take the time to hear exactly what you’re feeling so we can address your fears.
  • True Comfort: We offer effective numbing and sedation options to ensure you stay relaxed and pain-free throughout your treatment.
  • A Solution for the Future: Once we’ve stopped the immediate pain, Dr. Varkey looks at the whole picture. We’ll explain why the emergency happened and help you create a plan to keep your smile healthy and stable for years to come. You’re back in control of your oral health.
